Dear [MP Name],
I am writing to urge you to raise the Oliver Robinson inquest findings with the government and the Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs (ACMD).
Oliver Robinson, a 34-year-old with depression and other complex psychiatric problems, died after being prescribed high-strength cannabis by a private clinic following a single video consultation. The clinic never contacted his existing or prior psychiatrists.
In January 2026, the coroner ruled that the prescription contributed to his death - thought to be the first finding of its kind. The coroner issued a Prevention of Future Deaths report and referred the prescribing doctor to the General Medical Council.
I am asking you to:
- Raise this case with the Health Secretary
- Call for the government to respond urgently to the coroner's Prevention of Future Deaths report
- Ensure the ACMD's ongoing review of cannabis regulations incorporates patient safety lessons from this inquest
- Support statutory clear contraindications for serious mental illness in any regulatory changes
This death was preventable. The law must change to prevent it happening again.
Yours sincerely, [Your Name]
